Missouri Food Bank Association Receives $48,500 from the Walmart Foundation to Assist with “Promoting Food Security”
Donation to help Missouri food banks educate clients about available food options
Columbia, MO – The Missouri Food Bank Association (MFBA) today received a $48,500 contribution to assist with the “Promoting Food Security” program. The grant – which was given to the non-profit organization through the Walmart Foundation’s State Giving Program – will help educate food pantry clients about available options to receive necessary food and nutrition.
“Wal-Mart continues to be a great partner in the fight against hunger,” said Scott Baker, MFBA state director. “With our persistently sluggish economy, many Missourians continue to face hunger for the first time. Many of them don’t know what resources are available to help feed their family. The Promoting Food Security program is an educational tool to help them understand their options.”
The MFBA represents the six food banks in Missouri that cover every county in the state. Along with a network of over 1,500 agencies, the network distributed 95 million pounds of food last year.
“The Walmart Foundation is very pleased to be supporting the Missouri Food Bank Association, and are committed to helping those in need in the communities where we serve,” said Erica Jones, senior manager of communications with Walmart. “Through this grant, we are hopeful that residents in Missouri will better understand the resources that are available to help them have enough food to eat.”
The contribution to the MFBA was made possible through the Walmart Foundation’s Missouri State Giving Program. Through this program, the Walmart Foundation supports organizations that create opportunities so people can live better. The Walmart Foundation State Giving Program strives to award grants that have a long-lasting, positive impact on communities across the U.S.
