Compensation: $62,500- $71,000, 100% paid health insurance premiums for employees, 403b

The Opportunity
Feeding Missouri is seeking a dynamic, creative and effective candidate to assume the role of Director of Communication and Outreach. This position will help create and share the story, impact and opportunities of Feeding Missouri’s 6 Feeding America Food Banks. This position will have the opportunity build-on and innovate operations and structure to meet the strategic objectives of the network. Our small team allows us to be nimble and responsive to opportunities. It also allows for incredible growth and leadership opportunities.

General Description
Feeding Missouri is the State Association for the 6 Feeding America Food Banks and over 1,200 pantries in Missouri. Collectively distributing over 162 million pounds of food per year, the Feeding Missouri network represents the largest charitable response to hunger in the state. The Food Banks serve their communities by building network capacity, fundraising and securing resources, coordinating emergency services and advocating for public policy that serves the interests of their communities and the neighbors that they serve.
This position will be our storyteller-in-chief. They will be responsible for understanding the general state of food insecurity, its impact on Missouri, and how our Food Banks and pantries are addressing those needs. They will help ensure that leaders, stakeholders and partners at all levels understand the needs and impacts of our network and develop messaging and communications strategies to tell that story effectively. The successful candidate will have the ability to collect and convey important information in a compelling way while considering multiple audiences. Our work is fast-paced and can be urgent, requiring work to be completed in short timeframes with changing conditions. From managing messaging during disruptions due to government shutdowns, to assisting with statewide messaging during a tornado response, to responding to fast moving legislation—this person will tell the stories. Superb time management, writing and interpersonal skills are vital.
Responsibilities
Communication:
- Develop and execute communications plan for Feeding Missouri considering all stakeholders
- Take ownership of overall messaging, brand and tone of Feeding Missouri external and internal communications.
- Collaborate with Food Banks to understand the barriers and opportunities for our network, which include stories from clients, volunteers, data and partners.
- Collect and synthesize compelling network data to share the impact of the Feeding Missouri network on the charitable food system in Missouri.
- Design and distribute all communications pieces as appropriate with consistent design and messaging.
- Create and implement pro-active, short-term and long-term communication strategies, materials and campaigns.
- Manage social media platforms, including content development and performance analytics.
- Develop processes, templates and systems for our team and the network.
Convenings, Education and Events:
- Oversee Feeding Missouri Network engagement in opportunities such as townhalls and other in-district opportunities for advocacy.
- Oversee training and education opportunities for Feeding Missouri Network including annual convenings and virtual meetings.
Outreach and Education:
- Maintain and update Feeding Missouri website.
- Develop media outreach network by cultivating relationships with newspapers, TV stations, radio stations, etc.
- Serve as primary media contact and develop talking points, press releases and messaging.
- Build and maintain relationships with key media contacts. Develop and implement cohesive strategy in partnership with network Food Banks.

Minimum Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent professional experience)
- A minimum of five years exhibited and proven skills relevant to the position
- Experience developing and implementing long-term communications strategies
Location
This is primarily an in office position located in Columbia, MO with the opportunity for flexible work environments upon approval of the Executive Director.
