Feeding Missouri receives $58,600 Grant from the Walmart Foundation

Donation promotes food security in Missouri

Columbia, MO – September 17, 2015 – Feeding Missouri (formerly the Missouri Food Bank Association) received a $58,600 grant from the Walmart Foundation’s State Giving Program to assist with funding “The Missouri Promoting Food Security Plan,” an educational program for Missouri’s food insecure population which helps educate those who need emergency food assistance of available options.

“The reality of hunger in Missouri continues to impact far too many of our neighbors,” said Scott Baker, Feeding Missouri state director. “While the headlines talk about an improving Wall Street, people on Main Street continue to struggle making ends meet. Educational programs like this help inform people of where they can find help when they’re desperate for food.”

“Successfully addressing a problem like hunger requires action from everyone – corporations, government, nonprofit organizations, volunteers, and community groups,” said Baker. “We are so grateful that Wal-Mart has recognized the importance of food insecurity and made it a priority to team with organizations like ours to help solve it in Missouri.”

The Walmart Foundation’s State Giving Program supports organizations that create opportunities so people can live better, awarding grants that have a long-lasting, positive impact on communities across the U.S.

To be considered for support, prospective grantee organizations must submit applications through the Walmart Foundation State Giving Program’s online grant application.  Applicants must have a current 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status in order to meet the program’s minimum eligibility criteria.  Additional information about the program’s funding guidelines and application process are available online at www.walmartfoundation.org/stategiving.

As part of Walmart’s $2 billion commitment to fight hunger through 2015, Walmart stores donated $260 million in cash and $2.6 billing in in-kind donations nationwide, delivering on its commitment one year early.
