Over one million Missourians, including almost 300,000 children are food insecure.
This means they lack consistent access to enough nutritious food for an active, healthy life.
Food insecurity and persistent hunger can have long-term effects on a person’s health.
At Feeding Missouri, we are working with our network of food banks and agencies to ensure Missourians in every county of our state have access to the food they need to live healthy lives.
Healthy bodies and minds at every age require nutritious meals to thrive. Unfortunately, food insecure families are more likely to be malnourished, subsisting on diets which are high in calories but low in nutrients.
When people do not have enough of the right kinds of food, they can develop serious health problems, such as Type2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and obesity.
To help our neighbors in need have better access to the nutritious food they need, Feeding Missouri created Produce Promise.
Produce Promise is a commitment to increase access to fresh fruits and vegetables for Missouri’s most vulnerable citizens.
This produce will help low-income Missouri families achieve the good nutrition they need to maintain good physical and mental health, academic achievement, and economic productivity.
You can increase the total pounds of fresh produce distributed to our neighbors in need. 100% of your gift goes to buying and distributing fruit and vegetables through our food bank network.
Since June of 2016, over one million pounds of fresh produce has been distributed through this program, and you can help exceed those numbers in 2017.
Just $1 equals 7lbs of fresh fruit and vegetables for a struggling Missouri family.
